Habersham's History
Habersham has been known for its exquisite craftsmanship and refined taste since 1972. That year, founder Joyce Eddy had been operating a small antique store in the small North Georgia town of Clarkesville, but was running low on inventory. She needed to feed her family, so she combined her creativity and entrepreneurial spirit to create small decorative purses from old wooden cigar boxes. They were an instant hit with customers.
That success prompted Joyce to establish Habersham. With the help of her sons and other family members, Joyce soon began selling handcrafted furniture with a unique style reflecting the American Country of the 17th and 18th centuries.
Joyce was committed to maintaining the integrity of Habersham pieces from the very beginning, bringing in expert cabinetmakers from North Georgia who were well studied in the woodworking and joinery techniques that matched her own personal sense of style and function. She even designed the factory to reflect that of the cabinetmakers in the 1800s, with the artisans hand-finishing, signing, and dating each piece of furniture they crafted.
These unique qualities carry through every Habersham piece to this day. We remain a family-owned and operated company, committed to maintaining Joyce’s dream of keeping true craftsmanship and quality alive, even in the 21st century.
